Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
Virtual Harmony is a prototypical, virtual community built in open simulation that has a connection to the historical utopian community and real town of New Harmony, Indiana. I grew up about 45 minutes away but did not realize the significance and treasury of meaning residing nearby. Dr. Andrew Stricker is the architect and custodian of Virtual Harmony. His research, along with his co-conspirator, Dr. Cynthia Calongne of Colorado Technical University make the pair the dynamic duo of virtual worlds. These collaborators were the recipient of the first place, $25,000 award for the Federal Consortium of Virtual Worlds Challenge in 2010 for their Mars Expedition Challenge.
Doctoral students in Colorado Technical University’s Doctorate of Computer Science Program and especially the Emerging Media Program are encouraged to actively participate and develop within the Virtual Harmony, open simulation environment.
